Good Morning:
Our library is a county district public library in Ohio. We have a main
library, one branch and a bookmobile. Within bookmobile we offer a homebound
program. We serve a community of close to 53,000 people. We have seen a
significant decrease in our bookmobile circulation in the past four years.
We are still buying a significant amount of new material for them every
month. It goes out for awhile and then comes back in to be stored on their
shelves, to be used very little again unless a main or branch patron
requests it.
I am intersted in hearing from public libraries that have a bookmobile
and have moved from having a "separate" collection for their bookmobile to
using floating collections or you provide some new materials but your
bookmobile pulls other materials from your other collections. You have done
away with the separate collection.
I would like to know your decision making process for changing, how you
decided to go forward and how you planned for it. Where did you get advice
on how to proceed? Thanks and feel free to contact me off list.
